Thr Communication for Health project, the flagship Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) project was implemented in Ethiopia from June 2015 to December 2020, with funding and technical support provided by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). CCP and subcontractor John Snow, Inc. (JSI) partnered with the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) and regional health bureaus (RHBs) to build the health system’s capacity in SBCC and implement innovative SBCC interventions to improve the health practices of individuals and communities.
This mobile application is developed to support rural women and couples to better manage and track their health, mainly during pregnancy, through delivery and after birth. Designed for use on both smart and basic phones, the approach invokes a simple, easy to navigate format containing relevant, engaging, and educational content. Key features of the app include growth-monitoring tool, scheduling for ANC and immunization visit. It is available in three languages (Amharic, Afan Oromo and Tigrigna) and no internet connection required to transfer or use the application.
This brief summarizes how health messages were harmonized in the Ethiopia Communication for Health project. It is a tool that was used to help health providers, program implementers, media professionals, and other stakeholders to effectively communicate with their audiences for a better public health outcome.
