IHME Data Visualization [Web application]

The Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) is an independent global health research center at the University of Washington (US) that provides measurement of world health problems and evaluates the strategies used to address them. IHME makes this information available for free so that policymakers have the evidence they need to make informed decisions about how to allocate resources to best improve population health.

The goal of IHME’s Data Visualization web application is to provide innovative ways to visualize complex topics. For example, you can watch how trends in mortality change over time, choose countries to compare progress in a variety of health areas, or see how countries compare against each other on a global map.

Here are just some of the tools which you can view and interact with:

  • US Health map
  • Tobacco burden visualization
  • GBD (Global Burden of Disease) comparisons
  • Mortality visualization
  • Deaths due to malaria by age and country mapped over time (Global), 1980-2010
  • Development assistance for health by channel of assistance (Global), 1990-2011
  • Neonatal, postneonatal, childhood, and under-5 mortality rates by country mapped over time (Global), 1970-2010
