This handbook is a guide to assessing community capacity for transformative work that leads to health. In this context, community capacity has to do with the question of whether or not the community has the characteristics, skills and energy to take on the challenges it will need to face in order to move to greater levels of well-being and prosperity. The authors have categorized these capacities in seven domains: shared vision; sense of community; communication; participation; leadership; resources, knowledge and skills; and ongoing learning.
